Ministers welcome eco-plan
Two senior cabinet ministers have welcomed a green initiative that records the carbon footprints of public sector supply chains.
Foreign secretary David Miliband and environmental secretary Hilary Benn have both backed their departments joining the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which already represents more than 3,000 investors with an asset base of £30 trillion.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will help the charity create a standardised approach to sharing climate change information and a low carbon economy.
"I am pleased that the FCO, through its collaboration with the CDP, is leading the government in the area of gaining a better understanding of the impacts of its expenditure decisions on carbon emissions throughout the supply chain," said Mr Miliband.
Last week, the Sustainable Development Commission praised a government delivery plan, which outlines environmentally friendly procurement strategies.
