Supply chain harmony key to future growth

Increased collaboration with business partners across the supply chain is integral to the future growth of global business, according to a new study.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) interviewed 1130 chief executives for IBM, discovering that 71 per cent identified greater supply chain partnerships as the focus for future enterprise.

The report explains that companies pursue collaborative models to gain efficiencies, fend off threats and avoid commoditisation.

Jim Guyette, president of Rolls-Royce in the US, told computing.co.uk: "Our integrated supply chain must adapt to meet demand in 50 countries. We are going to have to bring people in from the outside."

The study also recommended that businesses use structured collaboration tools to integrate those with supply chain jobs into their company, as well as web 2.0 technologies.

In other news, JDA software has acquired a global supply chain programme supplier, as it attempts to strengthen its position in the market.
