Firms urged to win Olympic bids

Businesses across the east of England have been urged to prepare bids for the 75,000 contracts set to be procured through the London 2012 supply chain.

Over 500 companies across Norfolk and Suffolk have already signed up to Compete For, which is an online match-making service for companies looking to be suppliers for the London Olympics.

The value of the 2012 supply chain contracts is estimated at £6 billion and covers services as diverse as construction, coach-driving, design work and road making.

Nigel Best, local adviser manager for Business Link in the East of England, emphasised that the London Olympics offers vast opportunities for many companies.

He said: "You don't have to be based in the city to benefit. Whatever field you specialise in, it is worth registering your interest in an Olympic contract now, whether it's to supply direct or to work as a sub-contractor."

Over 650 supply chain job providers firms have already procured contracts worth in excess of £2 billion.
