Third Party Logistics Supplier wins £13.8m contract

A joint venture between a major IT services provider and the government has procured £13.8 million of outsourcing contracts.

The department of health and Steria teamed up to form the NHS Shared Business Services (SBS) and the organisation will now be charged with managing finance, accounting and payroll services for 12 more NHS groups.

As a result of its success in the tendering process, it is likely that the organisation will have to take on a number of employees trained for procurement jobs.

Managing director of NHS SBS, Jim Vincent, commented: "These new contracts not only bolster our NHS expertise and reach, but underline our position as a pioneer in public and private collaboration."

He added that NHS SBS offer a cutting edge, flexible and secure service, which combined extensive knowledge and best practise from across both sectors.

Earlier in the week, it was announced that five primary care trusts would be trialling innovative logistics technology.
