Small businesses could form the main source of procurement jobs, after it was claimed that public sector cuts will lead to a "drag" on the UK economy.
Bytestart.co.uk director Emyr Williams said that as the public sector shrinks, it will become vital that small businesses step up to provide employment.
He believes that cuts in the public sector to things like purchasing budgets and procurement jobs will lead to healthier economy in the long-term.
"Small businesses are hugely important in driving the UK economy. They are the most important employer in the UK," the business website director said.
His comments come after the latest Business Factors Index from Bibby Financial Services found that 72 per cent of small businesses are positive about their current trading conditions, despites a downturn in business output.
"Where some people see a threat, others see an opportunity, so even in the depth of recession business owners tend to remain positive," Mr Williams explained.
