Supply chain jobs provider wins major deal

18-11-2009

Eddie Stobart Ltd, part of Stobart Group, a leading transport and logistics company, has secured a major deal with goods manufacturer Unilever.

The three-year contract, worth £60 million, will see Eddie Stobart handling transport for most of Unilever's manufacturing and distribution activities in the UK.

This is the first time that Unilever has provided such a significant amount of its goods transport needs to a single company and Eddie Stobart's ability to meet its carbon reduction targets was crucial to the tender agreement.

Andrew Tinkler, chief executive of Stobart Group, said: "As well as delivering day-to-day efficiency benefits for Unilever through our distribution system, we believe we can help it meet and even exceed its goals in terms of carbon reduction in the process."

Stobart Group recently launched an international rail service to join its well-known fleet of trucks. It is the first fully refrigerated train service to go through Eurotunnel and it is hoped the new service will result in a reduction of 8,625 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
