Purchasing jobs providers warned about LCCS

23-10-2009

Companies offering purchasing jobs need to take care when engaging in Low Cost Country Sourcing (LCCS), according to one expert.

Alexander Mazurek, principal of procurement consultancy Efficio, noted that businesses should think more carefully about strategic supply chain re-engineering.

Adopting and carrying out this strategy, which involves carefully examining the entire supply chain's transportation and production costs, can help a company "build significant operational and strategic advantage over its competitors", Mr Muzarek remarked.

He acknowledged the benefits of LCCS in reducing an enterprise's outgoings without making any major changes and said that new trade agreements and improved logistics have made the process easier.

However, Mr Muzarek commented that the method's real benefits come from being used as a strategic tool and its misuse can lead to "disastrous results".

Efficio has also recently warned purchasing businesses about the importance of demanding full transparency during the procurement outsourcing process, as well as keeping full control of contracts with suppliers.
