Procurement jobs employers urged to recruit different people
27-07-2010
Procurement jobs recruiters may wish to consider the advice coming from the Employers Forum on Age (EFA) that says a mixed team makes for stronger workforce.
EFA campaign director Rachel Krys believes that the recruitment industry has struggled to realise that a team of "identikit" employees is not the strongest option.
"What they're really missing is that a mixed-age team - having people of all different ages - makes a much stronger and much more adaptable team," she explained.
"When you put lots of people who are the same together, it is actually really bad."
Her comments come after government figures suggest that ageism may be continuing in the job market, with four per cent of over-50s claiming to have been turned for a job because of their age last year.
Ms Krys suggested that many recruiters do not like to take on older staff members because they do not know how to manage them.
