Military procurement contract 'less than expected'

08-03-2010

The Ministry of Defence's initial procurement contract for Light Protection Patrol Vehicles said more would be commissioned than actually were.

This is according to the Daily Telegraph, which indicated that 400 vehicles were first considered, although only 200 were deployed.

Shadow defence secretary Liam Fox indicated that Prime Minister Brown should be held accountable for the remaining vehicles and assure people of how many are going to be in operation.

Bill Rammell, the armed forces minister, told the paper: "As with most military procurements, exactly how many we order and exactly when we order them will not be finalised until the last contract is signed."

He added that the overall requirement for vehicles had not been cut down and rebuked Mr Fox for indicating otherwise.

In a recent interview with the Times, Lt Gen Sir Graeme Lamb said that the British military was being hindered by a lack of resources.ADNFCR-1076-ID-19654891-ADNFCR
