IT procurement contracts 'should be postponed'

09-03-2010

People in procurement jobs who are drawing up IT contracts should have their duties postponed until after the general election, it has been suggested.

In an article for the Independent, it was proposed that Labour was hurriedly pushing through contracts ahead of the election in the knowledge they would be hard to reverse.

The Conservative Party has indicated that if it gets into power, it will find "poison pills" which would make it difficult for them to cut public spending as they would wish.

Cabinet Office guidelines state that policy matters alongside any procurement contracts should be postponed if they are likely to be contested by a new government.

Sir Gus O'Donnell, the Cabinet Secretary and head of the Civil Service, told the paper: "We are pushing hard on what we can get through by the end of March and asking civil servants to prioritise that."

In recent days, the CBI urged the government to consider planning thoroughly for the future of the UK's economy, which is likely to be made easier by enlisting the help of those in procurement jobs.ADNFCR-1076-ID-19657558-ADNFCR
