Delay requested for MOD infantry vehicle weapons procurement

03-03-2010

There will need to be a delay of at least a year for the launch of the programme to install new weapons on British Army infantry vehicles, according to a leading procurement body.

The recommendation for the Warrior Capability Sustainment Programme (WCSP) could see the £1 billion project to install new turrents and weapons on the BAE Systems Warrior vehicles put on hold, reports Janes.

Updates achieved through the WCSP are intended to provide the British Army with vehicles that meet current and future combat requirements.

It is divided into four main sections, with new capability upgrades focusing on providing a new turret housing, main cannon and enhanced electronic architecture.

It was announced in April 2009 that the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Medium Armoured Tracks Team (Matt) would deliver the WCSP alongside the Future Rapid Effect System Specialist Vehicle Programme and the Common Cannon and Ammunition Project.

Matt is compromised of MOD civilian, military and embedded contractor staff.
